Lots of interest today as a Plano ISD parent and child throw accusations. Apparently, a seventh grader claims he was spanked, choked and pushed around by his bus driver. From reports it seems like the child is hyperactive and has ADHD, but abuse on a bus? It doesn't look good for the driver since the video surveillance tape from the bus shows the driver spanking and swatting at the child. Obviously the kid's parents are absolutely furious, I'm sure you would be too.
Lots of comments on this from various readers from ...."the bus driver has the courage to do what parents won't".... another comment "years ago, the driver just stopped the bus and made the trouble makers get off.." yet another "how someone saw the bus driver breaking up a fight and so pulled one kid off another - then another kid turned round and hit the bus driver. Apparently then the bus driver gave the kid "a good smacking" this time no reports or trouble.
Don't know whether you agree with any of the above, of course it's certainly controversial as we all have so many different opinions on this subject.
Now the mother of the child (a 13 year old boy) has accused the school district retaliating after she made the accusation and told the school that she was planning to release the video footage to the media that showed the incident of the bus driver hitting her son - next the officials at the school have suspended the child for an unrelated incident which her son says was "totally fabricated. Plano ISD has declined to comment.
There are now ongoing investigations to do with the incidences, thus district spokeswoman Nancy Long wrote that ...."the district will not discuss discipline relating to these matters.
As this is such an important topic including some good books on disciplining children (nicely) ....... just in case they are ever needed!
